The bank came first.

1596 Esmeralda Ave, built 1909.

When H.F. Dangberg put up the Farmer's Bank of Carson Valley in 1909, it stood alone in the sagebrush. It was the second building in the new town of Minden, red brick in the Italianate style, with BANK set into the parapet over the corner door.

Look up on your way in and the BANK sign is still there. Inside, the old vault still works. These days it holds the liquor.
